Since we’re on the topic of ‘the new black’ – every 10 years or so, a new destroyer of society comes around and freaks out stuffy people.
Seriously, it’s not – yes, some people do horrible things, and some of those people play videogames, but it’s sort of a ridiculous analogy.
Don’t be scared by something that’s not meant for you.
People didn’t invent murder after the Nintendo hit America, (nor did they invent the objectification of women with the advent of 2LiveCrew)
By logic, if videogames sell millions of copies, and videogames turn us into killers, than it seems like we’d have a smaller population today then as, by virtue of the fact of all the ‘murder simulators’ being sold, the videogame populace would be winnowing itself out.
Conversely, you could say that we need to Ban Schools (as I did above in the h2 tag) – I’m willing to bet that a MUCH higher percentage of violent crime offenders, or ANY crime offender went to school of some sort – probably high 90-percentile range – than ever played videogames.
By logic, we should ban formal schooling, since it’s a much more pervasive and troubling statistic.
